Dear Fandom 5K Creator
May. 3rd, 2024 08:54 pmThis letter is now complete!
General Likes: 5+1 fic; Accidental baby acquisition; Alternate universes of any ilk; Angst with a happy ending; Characters getting therapy (though I prefer it be off-screen since I’m a mental health professional and will lowkey judge a bad therapy session/therapist); Exes to lovers; Found family; Non-traditional family structures (single parents, blended families, foster families, adopted families, families where there's no designated parental figure but they all consider each other family, etc.); Outsider POV; Polyamory; Pregnancy and kidfics (I’m also fine with mentions of miscarriage, abortion, pregnancy complications, etc.); Queer characters (especially non-binary characters); Romantic comedies; Smut; Worldbuilding Grace Ryder/Judd Ryder: They are everything to me. I love their relationship dynamic where they take turns being the one supported and the one supporting, and how they can have difficult conversations about their relationship without it turning into a huge 'are they going to break up?' moment. Watching them become parents (and in Grace's case, a step-parent) together has made my heart so happy. I just love how they're in a happy, stable relationship that is not without its ups and downs but is at the end of the day about them being better together. Lance Hunter/Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie/Bobbi Morse: Bestie, beloved, and bastard (not necessarily in that order). There's so many bread crumbs about how their relationship developed over the years but we never get the full story, which could easily be a love story. There's so much complexity within each individual relationship (see my blurbs below about Bobbi/Mack and Hunter/Mack) that I just cannot stop thinking about them.
Hello, and thank you for creating for me! I like to begin all my letters by saying that I care about you having a good time writing more than anything else! I include extra prompts as a way of getting the creative juices flowing, not because I will be distraught if you don't follow one of them exactly. Also, if you see a prompt I've put for one ship but you'd like to write it for another, go right ahead! I put prompts by ship since there are some prompts I feel fit a certain dynamic better than others, but I'm not married to any of them. Mostly, just avoid my DNWs and we'll be golden. I've also written a lot (like a lot) of fics on AO3, so if you want to see what I gravitate towards, that might also give you an idea. It's been a minute since I wrote a Dear Creator letter (oops), so apologies in advance is anything is unclear!
General Dislikes/DNWs: Body horror; Epistolary fic; Explicit queerphobia (referenced is fine); Mpreg (unless the character is a trans man seahorsing); Non-ethical non-monogamy (aka cheating, infidelity); Original siblings of canon characters; "Shipper on Deck" trope, or basically the idea that side characters in the story ship the main characters (I'm fine with other characters commenting on how well two characters suit each other romantically and being supportive of the relationship, but what really gets my goat is if the side characters are willing to give up their own happiness/well being for the sake of the main ship getting together, or are otherwise scheming to get the main characters together); Ship bashing of canon ships to make non-canon couples look better; Soulmate AUs or anything adjacent to the notion of “one true love” or someone you are “meant to find” (I’m fine if this is subverted somehow, like a soulmate AU where the main relationship aren’t soulmates); Vomit
Smut Likes: Bath/shower sex; body worship (especially breast worship); breeding kink; clothed sex; desk sex, dirty talk; dry humping (especially pillow humping, thigh humping); femdom; multiple orgasms; orgasm control (if they get to cum in the end); semi-public sex/risking getting caught
Smut Dislikes: A/B/O played straight (subversions good/welcome!); bodily fluids other than semen/vaginal excretions used in sex (saliva is fine in amounts consistent with messy kissing or licking each other, but no spitting on each other please); female characters referring to their straps as their cocks; foot kink; non-negotiated non-con; rimming
9-1-1 Lone Star
Marjan Marwani/Paul Strickland: Normally I'm not a huge fan of friends-to-lovers ships, but for them I would literally rip my heart out of my own chest. Paul saying "I just can't imagine anyone ever letting you go" made me literally pause Hulu so I could scream. I feel like them getting together would be a rough road because there's so much standing in their way (not wanting to ruin their friendship, still wanting to work together, Marjan struggling with whether or not she wants to be married to another Muslim) but they also have done hard things together before and I think they can again.
Owen Strand/Kendra Harrington: Raise your hand if you're sick of Owen getting a new love interest every season! -raises hand- I haven't been a fan of a lot of Owen's love interests over the years just because they felt very copy/paste and he seems to rehash a lot of the same insecurities with each love interest without moving forward. Kendra seemed to challenge a lot of the problems he'd had with other love interests (like being emasculated) without it being threatening to Owen and honestly, I'd just like to see them work out so Owen doesn't end up going in circles again.
Fandom-Specific DNWs: Focus on 9/11 and Owen's experience with 9/11
Additional Prompts:
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie/Bobbi Morse: I was gone on them from the first time they were on screen together and finishing each other's sentences. They know each other so well (in Mack's case, I think he knows Bobbi better than Bobbi knows Bobbi) and obviously care deeply about each other (Bobbi saving Mack on the Iliad?! Hello!?!?). There's also several moments in late season 2/early season 3 where Bobbi, at least, is obviously flirting with Mack ("you're one to talk, pretty boy" are actual words out of Bobbi's mouth, like, okay, just kiss him???) and I would love to see the flirting lead somewhere.
Lance Hunter/Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie: Are you beginning to sense a theme here? I literally do not care in what formation Mack, Bobbi, and Hunter kiss each other. I am particularly interested in the Mack/Hunter relationship because it's the least fleshed out in canon. They have the kind of relationship where they're comfortable teasing each other but we never see them have many in-depth conversations (partially because for the majority of their on-screen friendship Mack was actively lying to Hunter). I'm particularly interested in how they stayed connected after Bobbi and Hunter split, and the fallout of the Real S.H.I.E.L.D. storyline; Hunter forgives Mack but it's stated in canon that's more to spite Bobbi than anything, so I'd be curious what the actual feelings beneath that are.
Lance Hunter/Daisy Johnson/Bobbi Morse: One of the things that makes me sad about the latter seasons of AoS is that Daisy doesn't really have anyone in her corner, and I don't think that it's an accident that this lack of support happens after Bobbi and Hunter leave. They both obviously care about her (and she cares about them) and while Bobbi and Hunter's individual relationship is messy I feel like Daisy is well-equipped to deal with relationship dysfunction.
Bobbi Morse/Daisy Johnson: Bobbi's protectiveness over Daisy during the Inhuman arc is something that can be so personal... Bobbi calling Daisy a rock star, stopping the Real S.H.I.E.L.D. agent from hurting her, working on the Iliad to help rescue Daisy from the attacking Inhumans... I just think about them a lot. Daisy would get Bobbi out of her stoic shell, Bobbi would protect Daisy and offer her a soft place to land.
Lance Hunter/Daisy Johnson: I just think these two have so much potential. They're both outsiders to S.H.I.E.L.D. with a distrust of authority, they both occasionally make impulsive decisions in pursuit of saving the people they love, they both have daddy issues (implied or otherwise) and for the first few episodes of season 2 it really seemed like they might be a thing. I love the idea of them being two kindred spirits who found a home in each other and just the general vibe between them. Bonus points if you touch on how canon treated them very differently (Daisy becomes the badass hero, Hunter stays the comic relief who is disliked by at least some members of their team) despite their core traits being the same.
Daisy Johnson/Antoine Triplett: It is a tragedy that these two never got to explore what might have been between them. I loved how Trip brought so much joy and life to the team and to his relationship with Daisy, and how he could understand he betrayal with Ward because he was also betrayed by HYDRA. It felt like they could have been something good but just never got the chance.
Daisy Johnson/Daniel Sousa: One of the best parts of season seven for me. I love how Sousa was immediately on Daisy's side and willing to help her and protect her. After the mess that was seasons five/six and Daisy's emotions constantly being pushed to the side for others' sakes, it was so nice to have someone who was there for her and showed that he was there for her.
Fandom-Specific DNWs: Grant Ward as anything other than a villain, Deke Shaw in any role, romantic Fitzsimmons (even in the background), romantic Skoulson (even in the background)
Additional Prompts:
Marvel Cinematic Universe
Thor/Bruce: I loved the way Ragnarok developed the relationship between the two of them. There are some relationships within the Avengers that feel less fleshed-out, and this was definitely one of them. The humor of it, along with the pair of them being stuck in a pretty bad situation together, really intrigued me and got me thinking what it would be like if we got even more of this relationship, maybe under better circumstances.
Valkyrie/Thor: The bisexuals feasted when Ragnarok came out. (Me. I'm the bisexuals.) Their mutual angst was so delicious, and I love how they both needed each other to work through their respective problems. I'm a sucker for a power couple and these two definitely fit that definition.
Carol Danvers/Valkyrie: Valkyrie showing up for Carol (literally) is something Carol really needs after years of being a loner/blaming herself for things that weren't her fault. I'm sure Val has some self-blame too for what happened with Hela, and I just love two imperfect people finding their way to each other and learning how to heal.
Carol Danvers/Maria Rambeau: You know what keeps me up at night? Thinking about what it would be like to lose one of the people closest to you and then one day she shows up with barely any memory of you to speak of. It hurts so good!!! We got a lot of this relationship from Carol's perspective, but I would love to get some of Maria's views on it too, especially after their reunion.
Steve Rogers/Natasha Romanov: What can I say, other than that CA:TWS exists? Nat teasing Steve, their trust in each other, all of the history between the Avengers and CA:TWS... In general I wish Marvel dug in deeper to everyone's relationships, but this one especially had so much romantic tension and untapped potential.
Clint Barton/Natasha Romanov: My ship from 2012 that has haunted me ever since. I love how they know each other so deeply and intimately, how they're devoted to each other and making sure the other is okay, how much trust there is between an ex-assassin and the agent who was sent to kill her... They hit so many buttons for me and I loathe how their relationship was deconstructed in the later movies.
Scott Lang/Hope Van Dyne: I love this golden retriever man and his black cat girlfriend. Their rivals-to-lovers was so juicy and Scott's ability to understand Hank and Hope as both individuals and as a family unit showed so much of why he's a good human in addition to being a good superhero. I just forever want more of them figuring things out together.
Fandom-Specific DNWs: "Thanos was right", even said jokingly; Endgame ending for Nat; Carol or Valkyrie being referred to as "lesbians" (prefer they be called bi or just generally queer, if you need to label them at all)
Additional Prompts:
- For Carol/Valkyrie: Carol and Valkyrie met before, when Carol was fighting in the Kree army. When, where, and how did they meet?
- For Carol/Valkyrie: Arranged marriage/marriage of convenience/just marry them somehow.
Motherland: Fort Salem
Raelle Collar/Abigail Bellweather: The love and loyalty between these two just gets me so hard. They obviously care a lot for each other despite all their bickering and they're also both so powerful in different ways! Abigail's "you're a shitbird but you're my shitbird" makes me absolutely feral and Raelle's hatred for the military but her love for Abigail is also just -clenches fist-. I feel like their development as friends definitely dropped off in season 3 after they both got their respective love interest and I would love to see that intimacy return in whatever way you see fit.Raelle Collar/Abigail Bellweather/Tally Craven: The only way to make a found family better is to make it a polycule. I love how all three of these girls balance each other. They see the world very differently and it's the differing perspectives that allows them to be so strong together. Their early season dynamic was immaculate and as with Abigail/Raelle above, I didn't really enjoy how season 3 seemed to mostly split them up or make their love interests more important to them than their relationship with each other.
Tally Craven/M: Listen, there were points in season 3 where I totally thought these two were going to bang and that was what kept me watching. M is such an interesting character to me and also obviously feels protective of the Bellweather unit. I would love to see how their protection of the unit bleeds over into a romantic relationship. Also, I feel bad for Tally because Gregorio was the least developed of any of the unit's love interests and mostly seemed to be there so she wouldn't be the only one left alone.
Fandom-specific DNW: Tally Craven/Sarah Alder romantically
Additional Prompts:
- Honestly, please just rewrite season 3. There was so much about it I disliked (especially the weird thing where Abigail and Adil were planning to have a baby???) and I feel like it would've been so much better if it had been more... grounded and there weren't so many weird power jumps and power creep.
- Go wild with worldbuilding and use the characters of choice as a framing device for whatever worldbuilding you would like to do! Of particular interest to me is magical history and how queer people fit into this world of magic, but if that's not your jam do what calls to you.
- Beltane, but change it. Are the main ship drawn in by the reel, or are they the losers hanging out together while everyone else fucks?
Star Wars Sequel Trilogy
Poe(/Finn)(/Rey): I'm putting Poe/Finn, Poe/Rey, and Poe/Finn/Rey all in one section because most of what I have to say is the same: their relationships had so much potential and it was thrown away for the sake of plot twists and Kylo. There's such genuine affection and warmth between all three of them, which neither Rey nor Finn really got to experience before. I love Poe being the one to give them the love they deserve, and for them to love him in return (either separately or together).Additional Prompts:
- Finn-is-a-Jedi AU, please! I'm sure this would affect his relationships with everyone else and there would be ripples there. How does Poe feel knowing Finn and Rey share something he doesn't? (If you want to throw in Jedi!Poe too, be my guest.)
- Rey gets pregnant, either during the movies or afterwards (during could be fun for canon-divergent purposes but after could be fun for fluff purposes). It doesn't necessarily have to be Poe's baby (or Finn's for the OT3) but if it is Kylo's I would prefer that not be a voluntary thing.
The Old Guard
Andy/Quynh: Oh my God, tragic sapphics. The fact that Andy still thinks about Quynh hundreds of years after they last saw each other… literally just stab me and twist the knife. I love the idea of undying love like that, but also what their love looked like before Quynh died (especially since I think it was implied that at some point Quynh and Lykon were an item?). Again, I am such a blank slate when it comes to these two, anything you create I will love.Celeste/Nile: I love them both so much. Both Nile and Celeste bring such hope into a movie that could otherwise be considered kind of depressing, and their hope fits so well together. Really interested in any sort of exploration of the dynamic between them and the juxtaposition of their hope vs Andy's doom and gloom (or any other sort of contrast you can come up with).
Andy & Quynh & Nile & Joe & Nicky: -chants- Team as family! Team as family! Honestly I just love the way this crew takes care of each other and how even though they've been together for hundreds of years they still love and care for and support each other. We should all be so lucky to have a family we can tolerate after hundreds of years, lol. Their simultaneous competence and world-weariness, how they have such different opinions and perceptions of the world and their purpose in it... I simply just love them.
Additional Prompts:
- For Andy/Quynh: Take a rom-com, any rom-com. Make it Andy and Quynh. That's it that's the prompt. Bonus points if their queerness is never really brought up in the romcom and the main conflict is something entirely unrelated to them both being women. (My favorite rom-com is 10 Things I Hate About You, if you need an idea of what kind of rom-coms I like.)
- For Andy/Quynh: Modern AU? Interpreting a centuries-long love story in a normal-person timeline would be so interesting, because what does it mean to have lost someone as long and as completely as Andy lost Quynh? How does the relationship change without the push and pull of immortality in the mix?
- For Nile/Celeste: Involve Celeste in the rest of the film, instead of the single scene with Andy. How do things change when this convenience store worker is dragged along into a sprawling conspiracy theory and a world of mercenaries and corporations and everything else?
- For Nile/Celeste: Mundane AU. Would love if Celeste was a convenience store worker and Nile was a regular who had a crush on her, or if they were two students at the same university, or literally any other scenario that gives them space to breathe in an otherwise hectic life.
- For The Guard: I think it was implied at some point in the movie that the guard didn't always work for good -- I'd love to hear them talk with Nile about that, what changed their minds, etc. etc. Alternatively, dark!Guard would be a fun thing to explore too -- what makes them snap? What damage can four (or five) pissed off immortals do?
- For The Guard: Any sort of mission fic. Send them out on a rescue mission, a heist, a vacation that goes wrong... I just like to see them working together as a team having a good time (or an absolutely wretched time, if you would like).
The Orville
Kelly Grayson/Ed Mercer:Unfortunately I am overly invested in whether or not Ed and Kelly will get back together. Their trust in each other as Captain and XO is so beautiful to see, especially since the core conflict in the beginning of the show was Ed's resentment towards Kelly for breaking his trust. Their loyalty and devotion to each other also really gets me really emotional and I just want them to find their way back to each other.
Kelly Grayson/Pria: I am a simple enby, and the only thing better than one hot lady is two hot ladies. I know Pria was a one-episode guest star but I personally have not been able to stop thinking about how much more fun and interesting it would have been if Pria had tried to seduce Kelly instead of Ed. There's just a lot of potential for juicy dynamics when you add "they should kiss" into a relationship, you know?
Kelly Grayson/Talla Keyali: Honestly I just haven't been enthused with any of the attempted love interests for Talla, but thinking about Talla and Kelly together makes my brain go wild. I love how Talla is one of the only people Kelly lets loose around and how they confide in each other about their private lives while trusting each other in their professional ones. Similar to above, I just think it would be neat to see how this dynamic changed if romance was added to the equation.
Fandom-Specific DNWs: Kelly's relationship with Darulio portrayed as cheating (I firmly believe he was in heat when they slept together for the first time and so the relationship was nonconsensual). It's fine if the characters believe that to be true or say as such, but I'd like them to be corrected either immediately or by the end of the fic.
Additional Prompts:
- For Kelly/Ed: A Parent Trap AU. (Feel free to use OC children for this one, or find a way to work Anaya into the role. Not a big fan of the Orville crew being aged down into children to fit the plot.)
- For Kelly/Ed: Any sort of canon divergence that results in them getting back together. It can be when they try dating again in season 1, after the Kaylon invasion in season 2, after the wedding in season 3... Just, get them back together, please.
- For Kelly/Pria: An AU of 1x05 where instead of seducing Ed to steal the Orville, Pria attempts to seduce Kelly. (Bonus points if you can find a way to make Pria "come to the light", so to speak, and have her join the crew instead of stealing the ship.)
- For Kelly/Pria: Some sort of corporate AU where Kelly is on the board of directors at a corporation Pria is attempting to infiltrate via corporate espionage. (If you're into smut, this would be a great opportunity for some desk sex...)
- For Kelly/Talla: Talla coming to Kelly for help with sex advice (either when she was having difficulty having sex with John in canon or another time). Does it lead to them having sex (so Talla can demonstrate her problem, of course), or something else?
- For Kelly/Talla: Role reversal AU, whatever that means to you. (Talla was married to Ed? Kelly is Xeleyan? Talla is the first officer and Kelly the security officer? Something else you with your amazing imagination will come up with?)
