Dear Heart Attack Creator
Apr. 16th, 2023 12:00 amI like to begin all my letters by saying that I care about you having a good time writing more than anything else! I include extra prompts as a way of getting the creative juices flowing, not because I will be distraught if you don't follow one of them exactly. Mostly, just avoid my DNWs and we'll be golden. I've also written a lot (like a lot) of fics on AO3, so if you want to see what I gravitate towards, that might also give you an idea.
Without further ado!
General Likes:
- 5+1 fic
- Accidental baby acquisition
- Alternate universes of any ilk
- Angst with a happy ending
- Characters getting therapy (though I prefer it be off-screen since I’m a mental health professional and will lowkey judge a bad therapy session/therapist)
- Exes to lovers
- Found family
- Non-traditional family structures (single parents, blended families, foster families, adopted families, families where there's no designated parental figure but they all consider each other family, etc.)
- Outsider POV
- Polyamory
- Pregnancy and kidfics (I’m also fine with mentions of miscarriage, abortion, pregnancy complications, etc.)
- Queer characters (especially non-binary characters)
- Romantic comedies
- Smut
- Worldbuilding
General Dislikes/DNWs:
- Body horror
- Epistolary fic
- Explicit queerphobia (referenced is fine)
- Mpreg (unless the character is a trans man seahorsing)
- Non-ethical non-monogamy (aka cheating, infidelity)
- "Shipper on Deck" trope, or basically the idea that side characters in the story ship the main characters (I'm fine with other characters commenting on how well two characters suit each other romantically and being supportive of the relationship, but what really gets my goat is if the side characters are willing to give up their own happiness/well being for the sake of the main ship getting together, or are otherwise scheming to get the main characters together)
- Ship bashing of canon ships for non-canon couples
- Soulmate AUs or anything adjacent to the notion of “one true love” or someone you are “meant to find” (I’m fine if this is subverted somehow, like a soulmate AU where the main relationship aren’t soulmates)
- Time loops
- Vomit
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Lance Hunter/Bobbi Morse: I don't really subscribe to OTP culture but these two are the closest I have to an OTP. They have fascinated me from their first interaction and seeing as how I love exes-to-lovers it's like they were made for me. There's a line Hunter says in season 2 that really encompasses what I love about their relationship - "We can be new people, better people". They constantly are striving to change and make things work and even when shit hits the fan they find their way back to each other.
Alphonso Mackenzie/Bobbi Morse: I just think it's really interesting that of the close M&F friendships in AOS, Bobbi and Mack's was the one that never turned romantic. They obviously have such a deep respect and appreciation of each other, not to mention the intimacy that comes with years of being friends, and I think they could just as easily find a romantic connection as the other two M&F friendships did. In short: let them kiss.
Lance Hunter/Alphonso Mackenzie/Bobbi Morse: Listen, there's just so much history with these three. I have tried and failed to figure out how their timelines fit together but regardless, the history... it's perfection. Basically combine what I love about Bobbi/Mack and Bobbi/Hunter and add in a dash of non-toxic masculinity in Hunter/Mack's relationship and you have the perfect mix.
Melinda May/Bobbi Morse: Sapphic spies, yes! I love both of these women separately and together (their revenge mission going after Ward was the best thing ever) and I would just love more of it. Kicking ass, taking names, healing trauma together... we love to see it.
Daisy Johnson/Daniel Sousa: Finally, a love interest for Daisy who is not evil and does not die! I just think their relationship was so sweet and relatively well-developed for such the short amount of time they had to do it, and I always crave more of them being sweet and kickass together.
Fandom-specific DNWs: Grant Ward as a hero (as a villain/antagonist is fine), Deke Shaw (in any role), Daisy Johnson/Phil Coulson romantically, Leo Fitz/Jemma Simmons romantically
Additional Prompts:
- An Academy AU. That's it that's the prompt. (If you do go this route I'm fine with the requested characters being either teachers or students, but please no teacher/student relationships <3)
- Divergence during or after Parting Shot. Change what happens in the episode, change who leaves (Bobbi and Hunter can stay, only one of them has to leave, they both leave but someone else goes with them, whatever.) How does that change their lives, and the rest of season 3?
- Didn't know they were dating! One (or more) person/people are oblivious to the fact that they've been in a relationship with another for... days/months/years/however long tickles you. Bonus points if they realize they were in a relationship when the other person proposes.
- Bonus Prompt: Inhuman!AU. Give more people Inhuman powers and have them figure them out. (If you do go this route, please still give Daisy her Inhuman powers -- I really don't like AUs that give Daisy's powers to someone else.)
Motherland: Fort Salem
Raelle Collar/Abigail Bellweather: The love and loyalty between these two just gets me so hard. They obviously care a lot for each other despite all their bickering and they're also both so powerful in different ways! Abigail's "you're a shitbird but you're my shitbird" makes me absolutely feral and Raelle's hatred for the military but her love for Abigail is also just -clenches fist-. I feel like their development as friends definitely dropped off in season 3 after they both got their respective love interest and I would love to see that intimacy return in whatever way you see fit.Raelle Collar & Abigail Bellweather & Tally Craven: I love how all three of these girls balance each other. They see the world very differently and it's the differing perspectives that allows them to be so strong together. I love their early season dynamics and as with Abigail/Raelle above, I didn't really enjoy how season 3 seemed to mostly split them up or make their love interests more important.
Raelle Collar/Abigail Bellweather/Tally Craven: The only way to make a found family better is to make it a polycule. Basically everything I said above about their platonic relationship, but also... let them kiss. Let it be messy (don't date your coworkers, or something?).
Tally Craven/M: Listen, there were points in season 3 where I totally thought these two were going to bang and that was what kept me watching. M is such an interesting character to me (see below) and also obviously feels protective of the Bellweather unit. I would love to see how their protection of the unit bleeds over into a romantic relationship. Also, I feel bad for Tally because Gregorio was the least developed of any of the unit's love interests and mostly seemed to be there so she wouldn't be the only one left alone.
M & None: I LOVE M. Adding a non-binary person into a world that seems so strictly divided into binaries was a stroke of genius and I just wish that the show had taken it further. When did M come out? When did they know they weren't a girl/woman? What was life like for them as an enby in this highly-gendered world? I just desperately want more of M and their story.
Fandom-specific DNW: Tally Craven/Sarah Alder romantically Additional Prompts:
- Honestly, please just rewrite season 3. There was so much about it I disliked (especially the weird thing where Abigail and Adil were planning to have a baby???) and I feel like it would've been so much better if it had been more... grounded and there weren't so many weird power jumps and power creep.
- Go wild with worldbuilding and use the characters of choice as a framing device for whatever worldbuilding you would like to do! Of particular interest to me is magical history and how queer people fit into this world of magic, but if that's not your jam do what calls to you.
- Beltane, but change it. Are the main ship drawn in by the reel, or are they the losers hanging out together while everyone else fucks?
The Old Guard
Andy/Quynh: Oh my God, tragic sapphics. The fact that Andy still thinks about Quynh hundreds of years after they last saw each other… literally just stab me and twist the knife. I love the idea of undying love like that, but also what their love looked like before Quynh died (especially since I think it was implied that at some point Quynh and Lykon were an item?). Again, I am such a blank slate when it comes to these two, anything you create I will love.Andy (/Quynh) & Nile & Joe & Nicky: -chants- Team as family! Team as family! Honestly I just love the way this crew takes care of each other and how even though they've been together for hundreds of years they still love and care for and support each other. We should all be so lucky to have a family we can tolerate after hundreds of years, lol. Their simultaneous competence and world-weariness, how they have such different opinions and perceptions of the world and their purpose in it... I simply just love them.
Additional Prompts:
- Take a rom-com, any rom-com. Make it Andy and Quynh. That's it that's the prompt. Bonus points if their queerness is never really brought up in the romcom and the main conflict is something entirely unrelated to them both being women. (My favorite rom-com is 10 Things I Hate About You, if you need an idea of what kind of rom-coms I like.)
- I think it was implied at some point in the movie that the guard didn't always work for good -- I'd love to hear them talk with Nile about that, what changed their minds, etc. etc. Alternatively, dark!Guard would be a fun thing to explore too -- what makes them snap? What damage can four (or five) pissed off immortals do?
- Any sort of mission fic. Send them out on a rescue mission, a heist, a vacation that goes wrong... I just like to see them working together as a team having a good time (or an absolutely wretched time, if you would like).
The Orville
Kelly Grayson/Ed Mercer: Unfortunately my exes-to-lovers heart strikes again. I think Ed and Kelly are really interesting because the reason for their break-up actually isn't a reason at all anymore (since I firmly believe that Darulio was in heat when he and Kelly had sex and therefore she didn't cheat). I also think they're really interesting because they work together so closely and have to rely on each other completely. There's an intimacy there that really is only missing sex to be a romantic relationship.
Additional Prompts:
- Canon divergence from any episode you want where Kelly and Ed get back together. Some possible divergence points: the season 1 finale (Kelly agrees to keep trying to make things work), the season 2 penultimate episode (Kelly's jealousy of her younger self makes her swallow her pride to ask Ed back), the season 3 episode where Ed discovers he has a daughter (just saying, they were alone in a hotel together and there were big feelings in the air...).
- Ed and Kelly start a family together -- whether this be by finding Anaya, adopting a child, or having a biological child of their own.
- The most boring, mundane AU you can think of. Coffee shop. Library. Take something as far away from sci-fi as you can get and make it still recognizable as adjacent to the Orville canon.
